'Kate Plus 8' Cancelled, Last Season for Gosselin Gang
TLC has announced that this will be the last season Kate and her eight will make their way into living rooms across the country.
The network said on Monday that “Kate Plus 8” would hit the 150-episode mark at the end of its season – “an exceptional milestone.”
“TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate Plus 8,” a network representative said in a statement. “TLC hopes to check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future.”
The reality show debuted in 2007 as “Jon and Kate Plus 8” – the couple, their twins and sextuplets quickly rose to stardom. In 2009 news of the couple’s separation and marital troubles stormed the tabloids and audience numbers rose over 10 million, beating out MTV’s “Jersey Shore.”
Following Jon and Kate’s divorce, the re-launched show focused more on Kate Gosselin and the joys and trials of being a single mother, raising her 5-year-old sextuplets and 8-year-old twins.
However, audiences for “Kate Plus 8” never drew as large of a viewership, with about a million people watching during recent weeks.
Kate tweeted, “We’ve had a great run! While it is very sad for me and the kids (there were many tears at the breakfast table this morning!), we are looking forward to with great anticipation to our bright future!”
According to Kate, she is remaining positive and is excited for the many new opportunities.
Gosselin says she will now have more time “for motivational speaking, book writing, and other fun work opportunities that come my way...and maybe even some dating??!!”
The last episode of “Kate Plus 8” will air on September 12.
