Katherine Jenkins 'Dancing With the Stars,' Disappointed She Couldn't Perform for Military Troops

Katherine Jenkins has been listed as one of the new cast members for "Dancing With the Stars." Jenkins however, was unable to make her cast debut after a failed attempt to perform for troops in Afghanistan.

Jenkins is a Welsh Mezzo Soprano singer. She is set to be one of the newest members to join the 14th season of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." The new cast was announced Tuesday morning on "Good Morning America." Jenkins however, was unable to make the debut.

Apparently Jenkins was instead, on her way to Afghanistan. The 31-year-old had plans to entertain military troops somewhere in the country, though she "couldn't divulge her plans for her own safety and security," her spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com.

"I would have loved to have been at the announcement but as a supporter of military men and women around the world, it was very important to me that I keep my word and be in Afghanistan to entertain the troops," the singer said later in a statement. "However, due to technical problems with the plane, I was unable to make it there this time ... but this will not stop me from going again in the future!"

Jenkins recently split from fiance Gethin Jones, 34, in December. She will take the stage along with "Melrose Place" actor Jack Wagner, "The View" co-host Sherri Shepherd, former "Little House on the Prairie" child actress Melissa Gilbert and Disney Channel star Roshon Fegan. Other cast member include "Extra" presenter Maria Menounos, "Family Matters" actor Jaleel White, telenovela star William Levy and National Football League player Donald Driver.

Despite her efforts to support the troops, Jenkins relayed on Twitter that she was unable to make it to Afghanistan. "After 2 nights at RAF Akrotiri & 2 planes with technical probs, now heading home feeling gutted we didn't make it 2 Afghan. Stay safe every1!" she wrote. Later she switched focus back to "Dancing With the Stars," in an attempt to look at the bright side of things. "So now I have a spare day to prepare myself for DWTS & for my first day of training with @MarkBallas #anyoneknowagoodfootmasseuse," she added.
