Kathryn Erbe Returns to 'Law & Order: SVU' for Special Episode

Kathryn Erbe will return for a second episode of "Law & Order: SVU" in May, executives revealed. She will again portray her tough-as-nails character Alexandra Eames, who will help star Ice-T's character out of trouble.

"What happens is so big, she's called in," executive producer Warren Leight told TVLine. Fin's past as a narcotics officer comes into play and someone from his past comes back to haunt him. The idea for the episode came from Ice-T himself, who recognized a trend from earlier before.

"He said, 'I saw after that Rollins-and-her-sister episode, the fans really like it when we're in harm's way. And don't forget, I used to be a narcotics officer. There's got to be a lot of people who want me dead,'" Leight said.

The show, now in its 14th season, has always managed to bring on big-name stars for special episodes. The "Law & Order" franchise has been very successful, with crossover episodes, including those with past stars such as Sam Waterson, Jerry Orbach, and others.

Erbe initially starred on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" from 2001 to 2011 before the show was canceled. Before that, she appeared on HBO's "Oz" and various movies and TV episodes. Her role as Alexandra Eames brought her newfound fame and recognition, though, and fans were delighted to see her on "SVU."

On her first appearance, she represented the Major Case division, which was called in to help bust up a sex slave ring. It was clear that Erbe had chemistry with the cast of "SVU"- enough so that Leight wanted to bring her back for another go-round.

The special episode will also feature 2 Chainz, a hip-hop artist who plays "someone Fin dealt with in the past. There's a lot of bad blood from Fin's past involved in it," Leight said.

"Law & Order: SVU" airs on Wednesday nights on NBC; the episode featuring Erbe and 2 Chainz premieres on May 8.
