Katie Couric Splits from Brooks Perlin

News anchor Katie Couric has split from her long-time love Brooks Perlin, according to a rep for the famous newswoman.

“Katie is someone who is incredibly versatile and accessible and in high demand and he just couldn’t keep up,” a friend of Couric told US Weekly.

The friend told the magazine that Couric initiated the breakup with her partner of five years.

The couple, which had a 17-year-age gap, met in 2006 at an event held to raise money for cancer research at the Louis Licari hair salon.

Perlin, 37, acts as the chief financial officer for Eco Supply Center. Perlin was previously a hedge-fund partner prior to becoming a sustainable building materials entrepreneur.

The 54-year-old news anchor had formerly called Perlin “cute” adding that he was a “kind, caring, and sensitive” man.

Signs of trouble between the couple emerged this past May when Couric admitted to People magazine that she was really happy in her personal life but added that things were “complicated.”

Couric, who was born in Virginia, was previously married to attorney Jay Monahan. The couple married in 1989 and Monahan died nine years later in 1998 of colon cancer.

Monahan and Couric had two daughters together, 20-year-old Elle and 15-year-old Carrie.

“I miss him. I wasn’t afraid of death, I was more afraid of loss,” she told People of her husband’s untimely death at the age of 42.

Couric left her post as anchor for “CBS Evening News” this past June and has been busy working on a new syndicated talk show.

The show, which is rumored to cover topical issues as well as inspirational stories, is set to launch in September of 2012 and be hosted by Disney-ABC Domestic Television.

The news anchor will be hosting the television special “This Year” airing on Dec. 15 on ABC.
