Katie Holmes Emerges Without Wedding Ring, Divorcing Tom Cruise Over Scientology
Katie Holmes made her first public appearance since filing for divorce from Tom Cruise on June 28, and the actress was without her wedding ring and appeared to be in good spirits.
The 33-year-old was spotted in New York on Monday, where she was filming the "Project Runway: All Stars" show taping, and reportedly exuded confidence and looked extremely happy, which some fans say she has not been in years.
Holmes, dressed in a navy dress and sporting a sleek ponytail, made her way over to the recording studios where she will appear as a guest judge on the fashion reality TV show, according to Radar Online.
"Katie was fantastic!" a source told RadarOnline.com about her guest judge appearance on the show. "She was great, she asked questions and she has a really sharp eye for fashion.
"She seemed really happy and carefree, definitely not like she's going through a stressful divorce!" the insider added.
The actress reportedly ended her 5-year marriage to Cruise, 50, due to their clash in parenting styles.
Cruise, who is a devout Scientologist, reportedly made plans to send the estranged couple's 6-year-old daughter Suri to a radical Scientology organization known as the Sea Organization, according to TMZ.com.
The Sea Org is composed of adults and minors who have committed their lives to the volunteer service of their cult, and various ex-members have blasted the organization and its practices as being unhealthy.
Holmes, who was raised by Catholic parents, reportedly became involved with Scientology after she married Cruise to please him, according to Radar Online.
"Look, Katie led a very ordinary and honest life before she met Tom and tried to continue to do so during the time she was with him. Katie is level headed and extremely smart. She was never completely committed to Scientology, but she participated because she truly was in love with Tom and she knew it meant a lot to him," a source said.
Holmes has now reportedly enrolled Suri in a Catholic school, and has turned to her parents Kathleen and Martin Holmes, for support during her divorce.
