Katy Perry and Rob Ackroyd Over?
Katy Perry brought a "smokin" date to Sunday's Billboard Music Awards, sparking rumors that her relationship with Rob Ackroyd is over.
Joining Perry at the awards ceremony was the singer's 91-year-old grandmother Ann Hudson.
The singer posted on Twitter: "My date to tonight's Billboard Music Awards is hotter than the las vegas weather. SMOKIN'!"
Many reports indicated that Perry was dating Ackroyd after they were photographed holding hands during last month's Coachella Music Festival.
A source close to Perry, who split from husband Russell Brand in December, said that the singer ended her relationship with the Florence and the Machine guitarist because of her busy schedule.
"The main thing which led to her split with Russell was spending the majority of her marriage to him on tour and she said dating Rob felt like being with Russell all over again," said the insider, according to The Sunday Mirror. "It's a shame as they both liked each other but Katy wants to be able to have a relationship with somebody she isn't constantly having to go work out what time zone they're in."
Ackroyd was the first man Perry dated following her split from Brand, and the insider offered insight into the guitarist's reaction.
"Rob was gutted but Katy said she didn't want to get in too deep and then break his heart so it was best to cut things off before they got serious," said the source.
Donning a lilac dress that matched her purple hair, Perry attended the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday as both a nominee and a performer. During the show, she debuted her new single, "Wide Awake," for the first time on television.
As the night went on, Perry claimed The Spotlight Award. She acknowledged her date, telling her grandmother during her acceptance speech, "I can't wait to take shots with you later!"
Hudson has attended awards ceremonies with the 27-year-old singer before, including 2011's Grammy Awards along with Perry's then-husband, Brand.
