Katy Perry Father Calls for 'Prayers' for 'Devil Child'
Katy Perry's father Keith recently referred to his daughter as a "devil child" and called for "prayers" for the singer who he claims "needs healing."
The outspoken pastor is currently touring American churches with his pastor wife Mary Hudson. He expressed concerns for Perry, 28, during a sermon in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., revealing that he believes it is "wrong" for fans to worship the singer instead of God, according to The Sun U.K.
"I was at a concert of Katy's where there were 20,000. I'm watching this generation and they were going at it. It almost looked like church," Keith told congregants.
"I stood there and wept and kept on weeping and weeping. They're loving and worshipping the wrong thing," he added.
Perry, who was previously a church singer, is now arguably among the biggest pop singers in the world. Keith claims the "I Kissed A Girl" singer's music often raises questions about his own teachings.
"They ask how can I preach if I produce a girl who sang about kissing another girl?" he said.
This is not the first time that Keith has publicly expressed concerns about his daughter's career. In 2012, he and Hudson remained optimistic after Perry announced her divorce from British actor Russell Brand.
The pair suggested that God would use Perry and Brand's divorce to boost their church.
"I'm sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight," Mary reportedly told worshipers at Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio.
"I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012," she added.
Keith, who reportedly maintains a close bond with Perry, once urged the public to refrain from judging his daughter about her divorce.
"I love my daughter and I will always love her. Stop being judgmental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children," Keith said.
"Just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race. They are counting on you. I believe in God, for every one of my children," he added.
