Katy Perry Makes Her Hosting Debut on SNL
Pop star Katy Perry hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time this weekend.
The wife of Russell Brand kicked off the show wearing a tight red dress decorated with Christmas ornaments for the show’s opening monologue.
Kristen Wiig appeared alongside Perry during the monologue, donning a blue wig and a bra that projected whipped cream, a la the starlet’s “California Gurls” music video.
The 27-year-old Santa Barbara native put her acting chops to work throughout the show doing celebrity impersonations of such stars as Florence Welch, Pippa Middleton and Christina Aguilera.
This weekend’s episode also had surprise appearances by Val Kilmer, who paired up with Perry in a Digital Short sing-a-long, Matt Damon, and Alec Baldwin, who popped in for “Weekend Update.” The “30 Rock” star dished on his recent controversy with American Airlines, lampooning on his removal from a flight last week after he refused to turn off his phone while playing the game Words with Friends.
The night’s musical guest was Robyn, who formerly joined Perry on her California Dreams tour. The Swede delivered high-energy performances of “Call Your Girlfriend” and “Dancing on My Own.”
