Katy Perry: My Mom Thanks God for Divorce From Brand

Katy Perry's mother approved of Perry's divorce from comedian Russell Brand last year, a new report revealed.

In fact, the pop singer's Evangelist mother was grateful to God for the end of Perry's 14-month marriage.

"My mom thanks God every day for my divorce," Perry told The Sun U.K.

In the past, Perry has been very outspoken about growing up in a deeply Christian household. The singer's parents, Keith and Mary Hudson, are Christian pastors.

At the time that Perry and Brand split in December 2011, it was reported that the British comedian was the one to file the divorce papers because Perry was raised to believe that "divorce is wrong," according to TMZ.

Furthermore, Perry was reportedly concerned over possibly upsetting her religious parents with news of the divorce. However, it appears as though the singer had nothing to fear.

Around the same time that Brand announced the divorce from Perry, Mary Hudson was quoted telling churchgoers that the split was God's way of getting people to church.

"I'm sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight," Perry's mother said to worshippers at the Church On The Rise congregation in January 2012, according to The Sun.

Meanwhile, the "Part of Me" singer also recently revealed the things for which she is grateful to God.

Although her gratitude is different from her mother's, Perry said God is part of her daily life.

"I thank God every day for having made us all the same way and I pray for anyone who fights for freedom of speech," the singer explained.

Perry also acknowledged her relationship with God via Twitter last week.

"Sometimes it takes me weeks, months, years to write a song and then sometimes… God gives it to me in a moment," the singer wrote. "Oh, I love this moment."
