Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom Sport Tamagotchis to the Met Gala

Katy Perry attended the Met Gala this year with a surprising and interesting accessory, the Tamagotchi. Her rumored partner, actor Orlando Bloom, was also spotted to be wearing the classic 1990s gadget as well. Both were dressed in Prada.

"Well, this is a Tamagotchi," Perry told Vogue's André Leon Talley. "It's been my tech contribution for this year's Met Gala. It's humble, but it's tech."

The Tamagotchi is a nod to this year's Met Gala theme, "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." It's a handheld digital pet that was created by Bandai and launched in 1996 in Japan.

This isn't the first time Katy has been spotted to wear a geeky gaming-related item though. Last year, she also wore a Nintendo Wiimote strap during her Super Bowl performance.

The rest of her attire was from Prada. She went with a futuristic gothic gown accessorized with key charms, roses, and swirling gold embellishment. The motifs echo Prada's Fall womenswear collection, which is the inspiration of Katy's dress, stylist Leslie Fremar told Vogue.

"Katy and I went through the latest Prada runway show and we picked little things from each look of the collection," said Fremar. "Then, based on our favorite things, Prada came back with a few sketches, and from them we picked the final look."

Other celebrities at the event that incorporated some tech into their outfits include Claire Danes whose strapless Zac Posen gown featured lights. Beyonce was also talked about on the Internet, thanks to her nude Givenchy latex gown, which some Twitter users took as a reference to her new "Lemonade" visual album, specifically the part which says she'll wear Becky's skin over hers. Meanwhile, reality star Kim Kardashian went with an embellished Balmain gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry in her interpretation of "bling sexy robot." Going in a similar direction, couple Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid went for a "robots in love" theme.

As for Orlando, there's nothing else to say except that he was very preoccupied with keeping his Tamagotchi alive apparently.
