Kelis Taxes: $330,000 Demanded From Singer

Pop star Kelis is focusing on the release of her new single "Distance," but has also reportedly run into some distractions and has been hit with a tax lien, owing taxes to the amount of $330,426,71 for the years 2004 and 2010.

Kelis is currently working the European music festival circuit scene, but according to celeb gossip site TMZ the popular singer has had documents filed against her in New York City demanding that she pay the huge sum owed.

It is believed the massive payment is due because Kelis earned way over her "usual amount" for her tax year. Part of that success came through supporting Brittney Spears on her The Onyx Hotel tour, as well as going on a string of her own concert dates throughout the United States with singer Robyn.

Her ex-husband, Nas, was ironically also hit earlier this year with a demand to pay $339,005.49 in federal income tax for the year 2010. Public records have also revealed that Nas had $6 million in back taxes from previous years. He famously has extensive child support payments to make: "Life is crazy. I [wound] up paying more money to baby mommas than what some of my rap brothers and sistren make,' Nas previously told MTV.

Kelis has claimed child and spousal support from Nas related to their son Knight. Nas also has a daughter called Destiny from a previous relationship before meeting Kelis. It is believed Nas must pay approximately $25,000 a month to Kelis in support payments.

Kelis and Nas are not the only singers in trouble because of their taxes. Lauryn Hill faces three years in jail after pleading guilty to tax evasion on earnings of $1.8m
