Kellie Pickler Shaved Head, Makes Waves

Kellie Pickler has proven herself to be a supportive and selfless friend after debuting her shaved head in order to boost breast cancer awareness on Tuesday.

The country singer appeared in a video clip on "Good Morning America" in support of her best friend from childhood, Summer Holt Miller, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Normally sporting long blonde hair, Pickler buzzed off her 'do just in time for Miller's chemotherapy treatments, which begin Thursday.

"Cancer does not discriminate," explained Pickler in the release.

Also in the video clip, Miller added, "If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it."

Fortunately, Miller had been very wary of breast cancer since it runs in her family. The 36-year-old requested a mammogram when she felt something was wrong, and after doctors found a tumor, the mother of two was diagnosed with the disease in June.

While Miller is currently cancer-free after a double mastectomy, the chemotherapy treatments will help ensure that the cancer does not return.

Tuesday, a "life-changing day" according to Pickler, Miller listed the reasons for shaving her head.

"I was told that it was mentally much easier to do it this way than to wake up with my hair on my pillow," wrote Miller on her Caring Bridge website.

"I'm really not that apprehensive about shaving my head," she continued. "It is hair and it will grow back."

Miller is also very open on her website about her gratitude for God as well as her family friends.

"Join me today in appreciating the 'little things' in life that makes life worth living and not rushing through it," wrote the brave cancer survivor. "Treat it as if it were your last because none of us are promised tomorrow. God is sooooo good!"
