Kelly Clarkson National Anthem Shout Out by Pink!
Following the criticism surrounding Steven Tyler's recent rendition of the National Anthem and the also critical review of Christina Aguilera's rendition of the National Anthem at the last Super Bowl, it is no wonder why Kelly Clarkson was nervous just before this Sunday's football game. It appears however, that fans have approved of Clarkson's opening act.
Kelly Clarkson was very open about being nervous before her Super Bowl performance, singing the National Anthem. "Just finished rehearsing the anthem in Indy ....wow, I'm actually really nervous about singing at the Super Bowl ha! Here's hoping I nail it and don't screw it up!" she wrote on her Twitter account Friday.
The singer, who was backed by a children's choir, took a straight forward approach to the national tune but was credited with giving it a "powerful" sound.
Fans showed appreciation for Clarkson, who they say gave the song the appropriate amount of respect deserved. "Respect the song for what it is.....and what it means. Keep it simple and meaningful," Branden Breck wrote. "As a society we are so critical of the person singing the National Anthem instead of taking it to heart and having it mean something. I think in my opinion that the way she sang it shows that she truly understands the meaning and respect of the song."
Many other fans agreed. After the performance, Clarkson thanked fans for their support on her WhoSay account. "Guess what ....I've never been more nervous in my life than singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl tonight ....wow that was almost not fun I was so nervous!," the singer said.
"Fun night overall though! Thank you everybody for all of the nice things you're saying about my performance! I really appreciate it :)" The pop singer even earned a shout out from Pink! who also agreed that Clarkson had nailed her performance. "Kelly Clarkson KiLleD the national anthem. Show em' how it's done girl!!!!" Pink tweeted to Clarkson. In response, Clarkson retweeted the message and added, "Um ....this just made my year....& it's only February:)"
The singer, who has now moved on to San Antonio to perform in concert, also thanked her road crew for lending their support. "So after the Super Bowl tonight I had to fly to San Antonio because we have a show here tomorrow night and this is what I found on my bed waiting for me from my band and crew ....I'm a complete nerd and teared up ha! I love my road family!!" the singer said.
