Kelly Ripa Hosts TV Land Awards: 'I Get Excited Still!'
Kelly Ripa is known for her early-morning energy on "Live! With Kelly" but last night fans turned in to see her host the 10th annual TV Land Awards show. Ripa has spoken about the stunt that put her in danger and her love for actors and actresses from the 1970s.
The TV Land awards aired last night, with Kelly Ripa hosting the festivities. It wasn't long ago, though that a stunt planned to honor "The Flying Nun" nearly left Ripa with serious injuries.
"One of the shows being honored was 'The Flying Nun,' so [TV Land producers] decided that's how I should make my entrance, as the Flying Nun. They rigged me up in a harness so I could fly in. While they were getting everything in place, they kept telling me not to look down because if I did, the harness could slip," she told New York's Daily News.
"So I was making my entrance and, like an idiot, I looked down anyway and I saw Charo. And I was so excited to see Charo that I almost did fall out of the harness," she explained.

Fortunately for Ripa, she did not fall, and can now laugh about the whole ordeal.
"I can't help it. I always get that way around these TV stars. They're people I grew up with, but never dreamed I'd ever get the chance to meet. Being on TV was not part of my world," Ripa said.
Even though Ripa is a star in her own light, she still can't help but feel speechless when she sees her idols.
"I am a child of the '70s, so for me, television was it," she told the Huffington Post. "That's what we had. These characters were our lives, and I get excited still."
Last night's ceremonies honored hit series "Laverne & Shirley," "Murphy Brown," "In Living Color," and "One Day at a Time" as well as living legend Aretha Franklin.
"When I saw Laverne and Shirley in the audience," Ripa told the Daily News, "I almost jumped onto their table. You can never explain to these people how much they meant to you."
