Kelly Rowland Defends Beyonce Against Hair Critics
Kelly Rowland, the 32-year-old former Destiny's Child singer, is defending her fellow group member Beyonce Knowles-Carter against criticism about her new haircut.
Beyonce, the 31-year-old singer, recently showed off a blonde new pixie haircut, which caused a frenzy among fans. While Internet memes began which poked fun of the singer's new hairdo, Rowland let the world know how she felt about Beyonce's bold new look.
"Beyoncé can have a strand of hair on her head and still be fine," Rowland told TMZ. "We have been rocking short hair since the beginning of time. Somebody had something off of somebody so it's fine."
Some people compared Beyonce to people like fantasy characters Peter Pan and singer Miley Cyrus. Others used other entertainment figures to compare the singer's look to.
"Beyonce got that 'home alone' haircut, that 'Timmy Turner' haircut," the person tweeted. "Her hair was cut by a sword."
While more users compared Beyonce's haircut to comedian Ellen DeGeneres and news anchor Anderson Cooper, others defended the singer's right to change her look.
"Beyonce got a haircut and now everyone [is] tweeting about it," another person tweeted. "Why do you care is her life."
Rita Hazan, a hair stylist who has worked with Beyonce for a year, recently spoke up why seeing the singer's cropped hairdo was great for other females.
"I'm so happy because the extensions give women the wrong expectation of what their hair should look like - it's great for onstage, but everyday women shouldn't have or want to have five pounds of hair on their head," Hazan said in the Us Weekly report. "This hair is more natural, more realistic."
Beyonce previously let it be known that she feels beauty is about more than appearance. The singer has been vocal about the lessons she is teaching her 1-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter and said the most important one will not be about outward appearance.
"My biggest thing is to teach [Blue] not to focus on the aesthetic," Beyonce previously told People magazine, the publication that named her the most beautiful woman in 2011. "It's really about who you are, and the human being, that makes you beautiful."
