Kelsey Grammer Clears Up Car Seat Controversy
Kelsey Grammer has come under scrutiny for his parenting skills after he allegedly drove off without putting his 4-month-old daughter in a car seat.
The incident took place at Los Angeles' LAX airport on Tuesday when Grammer and his wife Kayte were videotaped and photographed with their daughter Faith.
Kayte held the 4-month-old child on her lap while in the vehicle, violating California law by failing to provide a protective car seat for the child, according to TMZ.
After the reports were released, Grammer, 52, has cleared the air. A representative for the "Frasier" star said that baby Faith was already buckled into a seat belt before the family left the airport.
"I am not an attorney, so I cannot [comment] on any legal aspect," representative Stan Rosenfield, told E! News. "I just know that the original footage that aired strongly implied that they left the airport without a car seat, which was not the case."
Rosenfield continued to explain the reason the why Faith was photographed on her mother's lap.
"In an attempt to avoid the paparazzi, they exited through the upper level," he said. "Kelsey went back in and got the car seat and met then at the car. Did the car drive a few yards without the car seat? Yes. At no time does the video show them leaving the airport with the baby not in the car seat."
The car seat debacle comes just weeks after Grammer was forced to defend his parenting skills for taking baby Faith to the Playboy mansion Halloween party.
"Kayte is breast-feeding and we do not have a nanny or a trusted baby-sitter at this time, so Faith goes everywhere with us," the actor said in a statement.
"We enjoyed the party with a few of our friends," he added of Hugh Hefner's bash. "The baby slept as her ears were covered the entire time and we left shortly after midnight."
