Kerry Washington 'Very Excited' to Be A Mother, Co-Star Says

Even though Kerry Washington is quiet about her personal life, her co-stars are speaking out about her impending arrival and have revealed that the "Scandal" star is over-the-moon about having her first child.

"She's very excited about being a mom," co-star Joe Morton told People. "She's sort of floating around, having just been married and now having a baby and putting a family together. She's in pig heaven, as they say. She spends a lot of time singing to it and talking to it to say we're just playing pretend and everything's going to be okay, so don't worry about it."

As fans of "Scandal" know, there is plenty of darkness and action taking place, especially with the arrival of Oliva's mother. Things are bound to heat up and lead to some intense confrontations and activity once the show returns on Feb. 27. But Washington is doing her best to assure her unborn child that "everything's going to be okay."

"She's a very smart woman, very kind, very affectionate, and she wants this baby," Morton said, "which is the key to it all."

Washington is famous for keeping her personal life out of the news. She managed to marry former NFL star Nnamdi Asomugha without anyone knowing and only recently confirmed her pregnancy. But that's just the way that Washington is, and her friends and co-stars respect that. They were even in on the pregnancy secret until Washington was ready to go public.

"We're loyal to her and that's what she wanted – she wanted to keep it private – and we thought, 'Well, it's her baby, let's help her do that,'" Morton said.

"Scandal" became an instant hit when it debuted on April 5, 2012. Since then, it has only become more popular, with fans of the show calling themselves "Gladiators" after the characters on the series. Washington plays lead character Olivia Pope, who runs her own crisis management firm in Washington, D.C.

"Scandal" returns from its mid-season winter break on Thursday, Feb. 27.
