Kerry Washington Wedding: Marries NFL Player in Secret
Without anyone being aware of their romance, "Scandal" actress Kerry Washington and San Francisco 49er player Ezenwa Nnamdi Asomugha were wed on June 24th in Hailey, Idaho.
The couple has been dating since last summer, according to reports, but kept their relationship a secret. Despite having an athletic career, Asomugha also has a history with acting. The NFL player appeared in "The Game," "Friday Night Lights" and "Leverage" in recent years.
As an actress, Washington has appeared in a slew of independent films, including "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." Last year she appeared in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" although she is most known for her role as the lead actress in ABC Family's "Scandal."
This is the first marriage for Washington, 36. The nuptials were confirmed by E! News although few other details about the case have been released. Washington's parents served as witnesses to the marriage. Outside of reports, Washington has been completely silent about her relationship with the NFL player.
Four days after the secret wedding, Washington gave in interview with The Telegraph. While talking about her character on the show, she gave no sign that she was newly married.
"She's so much cooler than I am, so much smarter, so much more powerful, so much more fearless. I'm not going to tell you about yourself or try to manipulate you," she said of her character, Olivia Pope. "I'm definitely not her. She is based on a real-life person, though – and that person is pretty bada--."
Washington admitted that she was skeptical about accepting a role for a television series.
"I thought, a network TV drama? No way, no way. I have a thriving film career," she said.
Choosing to do the show however, turned out to be a wise move and has helped to further launch Washington's career.
