Kevin Durant Signs With Jay-Z
Kevin Durant has officially signed with Roc Nation Sports and is hinting at setting unprecedented rules.
Durant, the 24-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder forward, recently announced that he would sign with Jay-Z on Instagram. In a photograph of the pair posted to Durant's Instagram account, Roc Nation founder and rap mogul Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter is pictured signing documents while the NBA star looks on.
Durant provided quotations for each of the men featured in the photograph.
"Grateful for the opportunity with Roc Nation Sports," Durant quoted himself saying. "It's go time."
The NBA star also provided quotes for Carter in the Instagram image.
"He has a 90.5 free throw shooting rate, the youngest player in NBA history to join the 50-40-90 club, a giving individual and a legend in the making," Jay-Z was quoted as saying. "What more can I say?"
Durant is Jay-Z's first NBA signee and the NBA star showed his Twitter followers just how excited he was to sign with the rap mogul's new sports management company.
"#NewRules #RocNation," Durant tweeted Monday.
Aside from signing an NBA player, Jay-Z has officially signed New York Yankees player Robinson Cano, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith and recent WNBA signee Skylar Diggins.
Cano, New York Yankees second baseman, announced that he would sign on with Carter's company earlier this year.
"At this point in my career, I am ready to take a more active role in my endeavors on and off the field," Cano said in a statement obtained by ESPN. "I am confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short- and long-term goals. I am making this important decision now so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates."
Diggins, the 22-year-old third overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft from University of Notre Dame, was recently selected to become a part of the Tulsa Shock and announced her deal with Carter's new company on Twitter.
"It's the ROC in here!" Diggins tweeted after the news was posted on Carter's Life+Times website."ShockNation meets RocNation."
