Kevin Durant's Mother Talks Son's Christian Faith
Kevin Durant's mother, Wanda Pratt, recently opened up about her raising her famous NBA star son in the Christian faith.
Durant, the 25-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder forward, shared his love for Jesus Christ and baptism story at Hillsong Church in New York City last summer. Now, Pratt is speaking about raising her son to become a Christian.
"Faith was always there. It was always a part of my family and my extended family," she told Necole B*tchie reporters recently. "The word of God was always in my home. We went to church so it was always there."
She went on to speak about her son developing his own relationship with God.
"But there is a time when you come to a space in life and as you grow that you have to have that separate relationship for yourself with God. And you have to put forth the effort to do it," Pratt said of her son. "You have mentors but the relationship that God wants with the individual is the relationship He wants with the individual. So it was time."
Still, Durant's mom revealed that her son has always naturally yearned for a relationship with God.
"Kevin has always had a longing for the things of God and always had a longing for being in church and being in Bible study," Pratt revealed. "So it was quite natural that he follow that."
Durant may play basketball in Oklahoma City, but the basketball star revealed why he wanted Hillsong Church pastor Carl Lentz to guide him spiritually. Durant admitted that he was drawn to Lentz because of the way he treated people and liked the fact that the pastor was unfazed by his celebrity.
"I thought you were weird first of all," Durant said while visiting Hillsong and speaking at the service last June. "Where I come from pastors are always in nice suits but you just dress like me. I really appreciate it…"
Pratt seems to approve of Durant's pastor.
"We don't live in the same place. So he introduced me to [Lentz] and that's the way he wants to follow his faith," Pratt said on necoleb*tchie.com. "If Jesus is there then I'm in!"
