Khloe Kardashian Responding After Criticism of Native American Attire at Kidchella?
Khloe Kardashian may be reacting to some criticism she has received after wearing what looks to be a Native American headress while attending her niece North West's most recent birthday celebration.
Khloe, the 29-year-old "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star, took to Instagram to post an image of herself with the head gear next to a teepee.
"Ray of clouds. Chirping of birds. Gurgling of water. Granting desire. One with water. #Kidchella my first Coachella," Khloe captioned the image.
Although it seemed she was having harmless fun celebrating her niece's birthday, her outfit caused a debate on Instagram and beyond.
Cliff Matias, the cultural director of the Redhawk Native American Arts Council, spoke out against Khloe's outfit.
"It's really sad that people who are celebrities don't take the responsibility and the understanding that they are trendsetters and they influence people, especially young people. It's a responsibility that I don't think a lot of them acknowledge that they have," Matias said in a Page Six report. "I just can't believe she would be that insensitive to think it was OK to wear that war bonnet at a kids' party … Now you have a celebrity at a kids' party creating a whole new generation of insensitive thinking."
Many other people accused Khloe of disrespecting Native American culture on Instagram.
"Not cool, prolly don't know anything about the history of indigenous people. We'll obviously not if your wearing a headress," one person commented. "This to me and my people is disrespectful. Come on Khloe!"
Another person did not believe Khloe intentionally meant to offend anyone.
"I feel we took this out of proportion. A lot of races have been murdered and treated like the native americans by another race (mayas, africans, natives of canada)," the person commented on Khloe's Instagram image. "Im sure people dont mean harm when they wear a custom from another culture we all do it (candy skulls, henna tattoos, a t-shirt with and indian god printed on) is basic ignorance. And thats the world we live in."
Kardashian may have been responding to her critics indirectly, when she posted a cryptic message on Instagram.
"You're still going to get criticized so you might as well do whatever the f--- you want," Khloe's image reads.
