Kid-Friendly Toshiba Laptops Launched With 'Dirty Hands' Screen
Toshiba has now introduced its new line of kid-friendly PC's, the Satellite L735D.
The silver and neon green laptop is a retooled version of Toshiba's previous Satellite L635. The Satellite L735D is outfitted in a more colorful casing that distinguishes it from the L635.
Some notable features for the laptop include an AMD E-series processor, 320GB hard drive, front-facing webcam, DVD drive and “wipeable” keyboard.
Since young children are known to make messy spills or touch the laptop with dirty hands, this keyboard feature was added.
The Satellite L735D comes in at a size of 13.3-inches. Its battery life clocks in at five and a half hours. Two USB 2.0 ports are fitted onto the computer as well.
Kid- and parent-friendly websites, such as web browser Kidzui, will come pre-installed on the laptop. Also pre-installed on the laptop will be the video game LEGO Harry Potter: The Video Game. The L735D will run on Windows 7 Home Premium.
Toshiba and electronics retailer Best Buy collaborated in order to build the Satellite L735D. This partnership has resulted in the laptop's exclusive sale at Best Buy, starting on Oct. 2. It will be priced at $497.99. The Satellite L735D is being marketed to pre-teen's.
Toshiba is also planning to release several other laptops in October. These new models are the Toshiba Satellite C600, L700 and P700 series, with sizes ranging from 13.3-inches up to 17.3-inches.
The Satellite C600 series is the entry-level laptop whose prices will start at $349 for the laptop series. Toshiba will offer them in 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch size options.
The L700's screen size options will include 13.3-, 14-, 15.6-, and 17.3-inches. Its technical specifications will match those of the C600 Toshiba. This laptop is more suited for home use. Prices start at $455.
The Satellite P700 will be the higher end model of these laptops. It will feature Intel Core processors and Intel Wireless Display features. Screen size options include 14-, 15.6-, and 17.3-inches. The laptop series price starts at $630.
The Toshiba Mini MB505 is the sole netbook model of the group. The laptop will be powered by an Intel Atom and its starting price will be at $300.
The Satellite L635 should be the ideal starter's laptop for young children.
