Kim Jong Un Baby 'Born in Secret,' Most Likely a Girl

Kim Jong Un is a father, according to multiple reports out of North and South Korea. The leader's wife allegedly gave birth to Un's first child late last year, but nothing formal has been announced by the government.

"If it was a boy, the North Koreans would have made an announcement," Michael Madden, editor of the online newsletter North Korea Leadership Watch told the Washington Free Beacon. He added that he had heard from contacts close to the family that a child was indeed born.

Last year rumors circulated that Un's wife, Ri Sol-Ju, was pregnant. She was only seen in public a handful of times and each time, she was dressed in flowing clothing, possibly to hide the pregnancy. Reports by Madden state that officials were purchasing "baby clothes and furniture in unusual quantities."

Un has been a controversial figure in the country, given his father's legacy, but the leader also has a different personality than father Kim Jong-Il. For example, he recently welcomed NBA star Dennis Rodman to the country and personally met with the, at times, outlandish figure.

"He's a good guy to me," Rodman told ABC's "This Week." "As a person to person, he's my friend. I don't condone what he does. He said, 'If you can, Dennis – I don't want [to] do war. I don't want to do war.' He said that to me."

Yet Un has remained famously quiet about the happenings in his country and the suffering of his people. North Korea has been experiencing a severe food shortage, with residents dying every day.

"There is nobody at the CIA who can tell you more personally about Kim Jong Un than Dennis Rodman, and that in itself is scary," Col. Steve Gaynard, former deputy assistant secretary of state, told ABC.

Rodman never mentioned whether, in fact, Un is a first-time father.
