Kim Kardashian 'Disappointed' in Negative Reports About Haiti Trip
Kim Kardashian is upset about the accusations that her trip to Haiti earlier this month was just a publicity stunt and has spoken out on her blog.
The reality television star said that she has grown accustomed to people giving her a hard time, but she refused to allow people to downplay her charitable work in Haiti.
“I have become accustomed to dealing with rumors and lies spread about my family or my relationships, and have learned to ignore it to a certain extent," Kardashian wrote on her blog. "But when a magazine makes the decision to twist the truth and write lies like that, it belittles the entire experience we had in Haiti, and I won’t let them do that."
Kardashian flew to Haiti earlier this month to give gifts to children that are living in refugee camps after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake wreaked havoc on the country in January 2010.
However, the National Enquirer magazine reported that Kardashian’s time in Haiti seemed to be more of a publicity stunt. The publication reported that a source said the reality star did not visit the impoverished areas of the country, and that locals were not welcoming to her.
Steve Azo, a television producer in Port-au-Prince, told the Inquirer about Kardashian’s visit.
“This visit was not about helping Haiti’s poor people – it was about helping Kim Kardashian revamp her image. Kim’s trip was NOT about helping Haiti,” Azo said. “She just came down here for a photo op and then flew back home to her celebrity life. She did nothing for Haiti.”
However, Kardashian defended the visit on her blog by saying that she had specific intentions in visiting the country.
"The National Enquirer wrote that I went to a fashion show in Haiti and spent a fortune pampering myself! The truth is that I was at the Haitian Artisan Fair, where the amazing men and women who make their jewelry and crafts sell them to visitors to make a living, and I bought some beautiful jewelry," Kardashian said. “Reading this made me so disappointed in the media. Taking such a positive thing and writing something malicious and untrue.”
