Kim Kardashian Divorce: Celebrity Married Kris Humphries 'for Love'
Kim Kardashian, the reality TV celebrity who has recently strained her fans' patience by staging a huge-event of a wedding and then divorcing 72 days later, posted an apologetic statement on her website Tuesday.
"This is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. I see all of the support and I am so thankful for my fans, friends and family who are helping me through this difficult time," she wrote.
Kardashian announced the end of her two-month marriage to popular basketball player Kris Humphries Monday.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," she said at the time. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."
Many did not react kindly to the news. A number of fans and media representatives were openly critical, voicing their annoyance via social media, including a Twitter hashtag, #thingslongerthankimswedding.
"First and foremost, I married for love. I can't believe I even have to defend this," the television personality argued in her Tuesday post. "I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show!"
Kardashian also stated that it was a hard decision, and suggested she struggled with showing her wedding on air to begin with.
She added that she wants to have a "family and babies," and she described the decision to get married as rushed.
"I believed in love and the dream of what I wanted so badly. I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn’t get off when now I know I probably should have," the star stated.
But it seems that even for a television celebrity, treating the institution of marriage lightly will not be let unnoticed. CNN declared Tuesday that Kardashian has become the nation’s "laughing stock."
After swearing to Humphries staying together for better or worse and until death tears them apart, it took, in one Twitter commenter's words, less than "my IPhone battery life" to end the union.
"I'm being honest here and I hope you respect my courage because this isn’t easy to go through. But I do know that I have to follow my heart," Kardashian said.
The celebrity has also announced she will be donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation.
