Kim Kardashian released a statement explaining her decision to split from Humphries.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” said Kardashian. “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

The network fears that its reputation has been tainted and E! Entertainment President Suzanne Kolb spoke to The Associated Press to clarify that the event was not intended to steer profits or Kardashian’s publicity.

“I don’t even know if Kim has had a chance to emotionally process this the way that she needs to,” said Kolb. “I don’t have any indication that this is going to change her career path.”

The two-hour television special of the star’s Aug. 20 nuptials first aired on Oct. 10 and 11. The first day attracted over four million viewers: marking E! Entertainment’s highest ratings ever.

Kolb also defended the network’s decision to air the wedding special.

“We are a topical network, and this is a topic at the moment,” said Kolb.

Since “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” debuted in 2007, the family’s reality show has earned the network high ratings.

Further defending itself and the Kardashian family, E! released a statement: “The Kardashians have authentically lived their lives on camera for a long time and Kim’s wedding is one of the many real-life events that the family has shared with viewers.”

Kim Kardashian and her sister Khloe are currently in Australia promoting a line of handbags. E! will premiere another season of “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” Nov. 27.
