Kim Kardashian Divorce: 'Marriage Not a Sham,' Says Kris Jenner
Jenner Takes To The Airwaves To Defend Daughter's Decision
In a flurry of media appearances, Kris Jenner, mother of Kim Kardashian, discussed her daughter’s divorce and the debut of her memoir, Kris Jenner and All Things Kardashian, on NBC’s “Today” show Wednesday.
“It certainly wasn’t a sham, it certainly wasn’t for TV,” Jenner told Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb concerning her daughter’s short-lived marriage.
Jenner expressed no regret for allowing herself and her family to live such a public life via their reality TV show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”
“This is what we do,” she said.
"We have people who have invested in our lives from day one, season one, and we enjoy what we do. I feel so blessed and grateful for the TV show,” she added.
The media has been abuzz after Kim Kardashian announced Monday that she and husband of 72 days, Kris Humphries, would be getting divorced. Due to the marriage’s short shelf life, critics have questioned whether Kardashian married for publicity with a $10 million lavish ceremony in Montecito.
“I married for love. I can't believe I even have to defend this,” said Kardashian in her latest blog post.
Although under public scrutiny, Kardashian continues to receive the support of her family.
“My sister is obviously going through a lot and we're obviously very supportive of whatever decision she makes," said Rob Kardashian to E! Entertainment.
Jenner has also taken to the radio airwaves to vigorously defend her daughter’s decision.
“People have to calm down for a minute and realize no one's doing anything crazy, it's just a horrible, horrible situation. I feel bad for the kids,” said Jenner on the “Johnjay and Rich” radio show Tuesday.
She also added that allegations concerning Kardashian’s motives for marriage “couldn’t be further from the truth.”
After TMZ announced it had attained documents citing Kardashian’s divorce from Humphries on Monday, Oct. 31, Kardashian released a statement to E! News, confirming the rumors.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” Kardashian said.
"I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things do not work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best,” she added.
Rumors circled over the couple’s rocky marriage when Kardashian reportedly spent her Halloween weekend alone.
Kardashian cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for her split from spouse Humphries.
Kardashian and Humphries share a prenuptial agreement, which will prove a financially wise decision, as TMZ estimates Kardashian to be worth a reported $35 million and Humphries worth $8 million. Sources say celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser will represent Kardashian.
