Kim Kardashian Divorce: Pre-Nup Says Star Must Pay $2M for Engagement Ring From Kris Humphries
Kim Kardashian will reportedly buy the massive ring given to her by Kris Humphries, whom she is divorcing after just 72 days of marriage.
The 20.5 carat diamond ring is reportedly valued at around the $2 million mark. The ring has been the focus of speculation after the divorce came to light last week.
A source told TMZ that Kim loved the ring so much that she had written a clause in the pre-nuptials to Kris, which allows her to buy the ring from him for the original price in case they end up divorcing. However, had she not written the clause, she would have been able to keep the ring at no cost.
The media has been abuzz after Kim Kardashian announced last Monday that she and husband Kris Humphries would be getting divorced. Due to the marriage’s short shelf life, critics have questioned whether Kardashian married for publicity with a $10 million lavish ceremony in Montecito.
After TMZ announced it had attained documents citing Kardashian’s divorce from Humphries on Monday, Oct. 31, Kardashian released a statement to E! News, confirming the rumors.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” Kardashian said.
"I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things do not work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best,” she added.
Kardashian cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for her split from spouse Humphries.
TMZ estimates Kardashian to be worth a reported $35 million and Humphries worth $8 million. Sources say celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser will represent Kardashian.
