Kim Kardashian, Kanye West Getting 'Engaged' After Divorce, Says Jonathan Cheban

Kim Kardashian's close friend Jonathan Cheban recently spoke out about the reality TV star's engagement plans with Kanye West following reports that the couple has put off wedding plans due to her ongoing divorce from Kris Humphries.

Cheban, who helped make Kardashian one of the biggest reality TV stars in the world, confirmed that the 32-year-old must first finalize her divorce from Humphries, 28, before she and West can proceed with any marriage plans.

"It would be great [if Kim and Kanye get married]! She needs to get divorced first, though. When [Kris Humphries] is done playing games, I guess she'll get engaged," Cheban reportedly told Life & Style magazine at Gabrielle's Angel Foundation 2012 Angel Ball.

Kardashian infamously filed for divorce from Humphries after just 72 days of marriage on Oct. 31, 2011 and although she has since moved on with West, 35, her divorce remains unresolved.

"Kim doesn't really pay attention to [her relationship with Kris] anymore, so she just lets it go and she's happy. It's yesterday's news," Cheban sniped.

Kardashian's mother Kris Jenner, 56, is also said to be thrilled about the prospect of her daughter having a third marriage. The mother of six reportedly wants Kardashian and West to film their nuptials with the E! network.

"Kris Jenner is ecstatic that Kim is dating Kanye; she can see their celebrity stock and wealth rising by the day! She has already told Kim that if they make it down the aisle they are going to do it on camera again," a source close to the Kardashian family reportedly told RadarOnline.com.

"You would think most moms would be keen for their daughter to take it slow, especially seeing as Kim's divorce still isn't finalized from the last fiasco," the source added.

Despite West's enthusiasm about marrying Kardashian, some friends close to the rapper have reportedly expressed their reservations- some especially objected to his idea of incorporating his late mother's jewelry in Kardashian's engagement ring.

Donda West was a Professor of English at Clark Atlanta University and the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University, and Kardashian rose to fame in 2007 following the release of her homemade sex tape. Critics believe that associating the two would taint Donda's legacy.

"His friends think it's a terrible idea and are advising him not to give Kim the ring because it's a gift, it would be difficult for Kanye to ask for it back if they ever split up," a source close to West reportedly said.

"They've also reminded him that Kim is not somebody who works hard for her money. She makes millions doing reality shows and selling her image, and Donda's jewelry shouldn't be part of that image," the source added.
