Kindergarten Brawl: 8 Arrested at Kindergarten Graduation as Fight With Hammer, Pipe Breaks Out (VIDEO)
A kindergarten brawl has broken out when some punch was spilled on Friday in Ohio. The shocking incident resulted in police being called and eight people being arrested, according to reports.
The brawl took place at a kindergarten graduation ceremony, and escalated to the extent that one participant pulled out a pipe and another a hammer as the situation threatened to become deadly.
The incident broke out when two teenage girls started hitting one another at Michael R. White Elementary School. That sparked a wider confrontation between their families, explained Cleveland police Cmdr. Wayne Drummond. He added that the fight included both adults and minors.
Drummond said, "You had adults fighting adults, juvies fighting juvies, and so forth. You just had a melee here."
Although no one was hurt, people at the kindergarten feared for their safety and many other families were around picking up their kids at the time.
Drummond explained that no charges were filed immediately, however, the eight people arrested were booked for aggravated rioting. Prosecutors will likely review the case now and decide whether charges will be filed at a later date.
Police have confirmed that at least 10 patrol cars were sent to the kindergarten.
Drummond described the incident as "very chaotic," with the brawl breaking out at about 11 a.m. just as the graduation ceremony was ending. The fight escalated and then eventually moved to the outside area as well.
The school was put on lockdown as the situation was defused, and parents soon arrived to bring their children home.
City Councilman Jeff Johnson, who lives across the street from the school, has said: "We're not going to have people coming into our schools, being disrespectful, fighting. So I support them being hauled off."
