Kindle Fire HD vs. iPad: Amazon Challenges Apple's Tablet in New Commercial

Amazon has released a new commercial for its Kindle Fire HD tablet that pits the device against the 4th generation iPad.

Even though both tablets are in totally different leagues in terms of specs, Amazon still felt the need to state that the stunning HD display found on the Kindle Fire is just as crisp as the Retina screen found on the 4th generation iPad.

"You may not be able to tell the difference," Amazon claims in the ad.

The ad specifically promotes the new 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD which matches up better with the iPad in the size department. Amazon feels that its tablet is just as good as Apple's and at $200 cheaper, is the better buy for the consumer. The Kindle Fire HD retails for $299 while the 4th generation Wi-Fi-only iPad sells for $499. Amazon is also running special promotions this week on the new device discounting it from $30 to $50.

Even though the hardware seems to be up to par, the main drawback of the Amazon Kindle Fire HD is its faulty software, according to 9to5 Google.

"While the price point might be compelling, most reviews (including our own) agree the Kindle Fire's software is keeping it from being a true competitor to iPad and pure Android tablet," said the site.

The Kindle Fire HD runs a customized version of Android created for the company's ecosystem.

Apple also made headlines this week as the company is now offering the 128GB iPad on its site starting at $799 for the Wi-Fi model and $929 for the LTE model, which will be available on major U.S. carriers including AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.

The 128GB iPad is available in both black and white.
