'Kingdom Hearts 3' update: Lots of work still to be done, release date moved to 2017?

If there's one game that lots of gamers are looking forward to, it's Square Enix's "Kingdom Hearts 3." But while the maps of the game have already been confirmed, the team behind the role-playing is just not ready yet for release, according to Youth Health MagThis means that the waiting time will be longer than expected.

Officially revealed at E3 2013 via a trailer, "Kingdom Hearts 3" follows the adventure of the main protagonist, Sora. He will go on a new adventure with various Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and other favorites. They are in a mission to stop Master Xehanort's evil plans.

In a talk with Games Radar, Game Director Tetsuya Nomura revealed the current status of the game. He said that the "ground foundations" for the game have been established already. He also mentioned that at this point, the developmental team is presently working on the mass production of the various elements being added within the game such as mini-games, Disney worlds, summons and many more. In other words, the development of the game is going well but there is just so many work left to do.

"But the basic structure of what's going to go in the game is set, it's now a matter of mass production of the different elements," states Nomura.

The game's slow progress is building speculations that it will have a 2017 release date. However, MNR Daily noted that Square Enix's other game, "Final Fantasy XV," influences the fate of "Kingdom Hearts 3." The former will be announced this coming March 2016 which means the latter might have a later release date because both games are being worked on by the same team.

This also means that both games will be released on the same year with "Final Fantasy" coming around summer and "Kingdom Hearts 3" arriving three months after. But despite the slow process, fans are still expectant and are looking forward to seeing an excellent quality of the game.
