'Kingsman 2' May Feature an American Spy
A month ago, news started circulating that the surprise hit "Kingsman: The Secret Service" is getting a sequel at 20th Century Fox. Tentatively dubbed "Kingsman 2," the sequel is said to be in the works with its film director Matthew Vaughn involved in its early development.
According to a report in Cinema Blend, the film's director, Matthew Vaughn, recently shared some interesting tidbits about the sequel in development. While promoting the release of the film on Blu-ray, Vaughn was interviewed about the film, as well as the upcoming sequel.
While the first film featured mostly British spies owing to its focus on a British spy organization, the second film according to Vaughn will likely feature an American agent. The first film featured an American villain though, in the person of Valentine, an eco-terrorist who was played by Samuel L. Jackson. Some of the movie scenes also happened in America.
When asked about who he has in mind to play the American agent in the sequel, Vaughn remained mum.
"All I can say is that you will find out in two years in the sequel. I'm not going to give it away now. So stay tuned," he said.
Vaughn was also not willing to share any more plot details, especially on how an American agent will wind up in an exclusively British spy organization, if this is indeed the direction the sequel will take. He only confirmed during the interview that he is hard at work on the script for the sequel. He has also not confirmed if he is returning to direct the movie. Vaughn is not known for working on sequels of any of his movies.
However, he hinted during the interview that he may break his rule of not doing sequels.
"I have to feel inspired and that I'm doing something different, and pushing my boundaries. Sequels normally you're doing more of the same. I'm trying to reinvent how to do a sequel at the moment, and it's tough. I'm in love with these characters, and I want to work with them again, so I'll probably be breaking the rule of tending not to make sequels," the director admitted.
Given his hint about the movie's release date, fans may see the sequel sometime in 2017.
