'Kingsman: the Golden Circle' Tops Box Office; New 'Lego' Movie in Trouble
"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" topples "It" on its way to a $100 million debut, as the spy action movie opens worldwide in its first week. Meanwhile, "The Lego Ninjago Movie," another new release last weekend, is not doing as well.
The "Kingsman" sequel is now at the top of the global box office, as it breaches the $100 million mark since it opened last weekend. "Kingsman: the Golden Circle" opened to $39 million in the U.S. and Canada theaters, more than enough to beat horror feature "It," which is now in its third week, according to Variety.
Another $61.2 million is brought in from 64 regions abroad, putting the movie's debut gross in the nine digits. The sequel to 2015 hit movie "Kingsman: The Secret Service" raked in $11.1 million in the U.K. alone.

Chris Aronson, distribution head at Fox, was not surprised at the great turnout. "I think it's really a very strong opening. We're right where we expected it to be," he said.
Warner Bros.' "It" is winding down in its third week as it looks to reach to $500 million mark for global ticket sales. The Stephen King adaptation has $478 million tallied by the end of the weekend, as it opened to France and Argentina.
The other launch from the publisher, however, is not doing so well. Launching alongside "Kingsman 2," the "Lego Ninjago Movie" settled in third place behind "It" as the animated comedy took in $21.2 million. That's well short of the $30 million figure expected from its debut, as Entertainment Weekly notes.
Jeff Goldstein, distribution chief at Warner Bros., is still hoping for a recovery. "I was hoping that it would have a more broad audience, and am still hopeful," he said.
