'Kourtney & Kim Take New York' Boycotted by Outraged Citizens
The Kardashian sisters’ new show, “Kourtney and Kim Take New York,” aired Sunday night, but there are some people who are unhappy with the reality star Kim Kardashian calling for a boycott of her business.
The grass roots movement, aptly named Boycott Kim Kardashian, wants networks, businesses, and other media to discontinue coverage and sales funding the Kardashian Empire, including the new show on the E! Network.
The movement's website calls for viewers to “Spread the word (not your legs)”- implying their distaste for the sex tape Kim made with R&B star Ray J that catapulted her to stardom. In addition, the website urges people to “Let Kim know that her 15 minutes are long overdue!”
So far, the online petition the website hosts has garnered over 170,000 signatures.
The petition admonishes consumers not to buy Kardashian-labeled products, like Kim’s various fragrances, books, and merchandise that are sold by Sears, Macy’s, Target, and Kohl’s.
Users of the website had many negative things to say about the California-born businesswoman, calling her show, “mindless crap,” “talentless,” “distasteful,” and “fake.” Still, others defended Kim, calling those with a negative impression of the actress “haters.”
Regardless of public opinion, Kim Kardashian and her sisters certainly are paid well for their work. Of all the reality stars, Kim’s earnings were estimated to be the highest; she raked in a reported $6 million in 2010, according to the International Business Times AU.
If over 170,000 people decide to boycott all things Kardashian, including the latest reality show in New York, it is unknown if it would make a significant difference in ratings. The fifth season of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” the family’s first show, averaged 3.11 million viewers in its fifth season.
