Kristen Stewart Debuts Orange Hair Via Instagram (PHOTO)

Kristen Stewart debuted a bright orange hairdo via Instagram over the weekend and insiders confirm the new do is for a film role.

The "Twilight" star, 23, underwent the drastic new hairdo at the Maison de Cheveux salon in New Orleans last week. The orange hairstyle is reportedly for her role in the upcoming movie "American Ultra."

"Kristen Stewart gettin her hair ready for a new role! #americamultra #awesomecolor #houseofhair," the salon captioned alongside the Instagram photo.

The Hollywood starlet plays Phoebe, the girlfriend of a lazy stoner named Mike, played by Jesse Eisenberg. Uma Thurman reportedly also stars in the Nima Nourizadeh-directed action/comedy film.

"The director of the movie told us what color to dye Kristen's hair," the owner of the salon told Us magazine. "[Stewart] was very sweet and cool."

The film is about a small-town couple whose lives are turned upside down when Mike's shady past prompts a government operation to rid of them.

"Simply put, American Ultra will be the most fun you can possibly have in a movie theater without the use of drugs, fireworks or canola oil," producer Mike Bregman told The Hollywood Reporter in November.

Filming is reportedly scheduled to begin later this month and Stewart's orange hairdo is said to be temporary.

In February the "Clouds Of Sils Maria" actress opened up about her desire to make drastic changes to her hair. Stewart is renowned for her trademark brunette locks.

"If I wasn't an actor, I would definitely do things to my hair. I would cut it more, I would dye it more. At some point I want to do a total boy cut, completely -- not a pretty, girly version -- like a straight up James Dean haircut," she told Into The Gloss.

"And then, I'm definitely going to shave my head before I die. I will definitely tattoo my head while it's shaved before my hair grows back," she continued. "I'm not sure which part, probably the bottom quadrant in the back. I don't know what the tattoo would be, yet. Still thinking."
