Kristen Stewart Sundance: Actress Talks New Movie's 'Love' Theme; Snubs Fan?
Kristen Stewart attended the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in Utah over the weekend and the actress opened up about her role in "Camp X Ray."
In the Peter Sattler Directed film, the Hollywood starlet plays Amy, A Guantanamo Bay military guard who strikes up an unlikely bond with one of the detainees. Stewart, 23, revealed that she was able to relate to her character because the film is ultimately about "human beings" loving each other.
"Human beings love each other. That's just the way that it is and so that's what the movie's about," Stewart told On The Red Carpet.
"In this gray area, there's one constant and people shouldn't forget that," she added.
Stewart was at Sundance for the premiere of "Camp X Ray" and she appeared happy and relaxed while posing for photos.
Filming the movie was likely a pleasant distraction from the actress' own love life, following her May 2013 split from Robert Pattinson.
The "Twilight" stars began dating in 2008 however they split last year due to trust issues.
The actress revealed that while the film has political aspects it is not "hugely opinionated".
"When you have really steadfast ideas of what is right and what is wrong, and then you involve people from very different backgrounds and differences of opinions, there's something there that never goes away, that you're both human," she said adding "and even though you may be in a position where you're like pitted against each other, you still love each other."
Stewart admitted that while she was excited about her first post-"Twilight" saga role, she was also nervous.
"I was so nervous when I first started working and preparing because I didn't think that people would believe me or think that I looked tough in a uniform, that I could do that job, that I could wrangle detainees that are massive and scary," she said.
While Stewart was talkative on the red carpet she was reportedly closed off after the film's premiere at nightspot Tao. One report claims the actress gave a fan her middle finger after the club-goer tried to take a cell phone photo.
"Kristen rolled up wearing a plaid shirt and black framed glasses. She was keeping to herself for the most part but spent a decent amount of time chatting with her Camp X Ray co-star Emile Hirsch," a source told In Touch magazine.
"Of course there are a ton of celebs at Sundance, so its pretty usual for them to mingle regularly with festivalgoers. But Kristen wasn't having it," a witness explained. "One of the Tao clubgoers tried to take a pic of Kristen just hanging out, she immediately blocked her face while flipping the bird!"
