Kristen Stewart Terrified of Filming 'Equals;' Did Jennifer Lawrence Turn Down Role?
Kristen Stewart is admittedly "terrified" of her new role after signing on to star in the Drake Doremus-directed film "Equals."
The Hollywood actress, 23, will star alongside "X-Man" star Nicholas Hoult, 24, in the sci-fi drama and the pair will reportedly play lovers. Stewart described the upcoming film as a slightly updated version of the 1956 film "1984," which was based on George Orwell's classic novel of the same name.
"I can't believe I agreed to do it," Stewart told the Associated Press on Monday. "I'm terrified of it. Though it's a movie with a really basic concept, it's overtly ambitious... It's a love story of epic, epic, epic proportion. I'm scared."
Doremus, who Directed Hoult's girlfriend Jennifer Lawrence in the award winning "Like Crazy," reportedly approached the actress with the role prior to Stewart however she turned it down, according to HollywoodLife.com.
He described the film as being "about love in a world where love really doesn't exist anymore."
"In Equals, things go wrong because you can't deny the humanity in everyone. It's the most devastating story," Stewart explained.
"I trust Drake's process and I know we will do something really natural and real," she continued."But I told Drake, 'Don't expect that I am going to be able to do this. It's too hard.' But he wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. I've given directors disclaimers before, but never this much."
Despite having first approached Lawrence, who was reduced to tears after reading the script, with the role, Doremus is confident that Stewart is perfect for the role.
"It became evident in my head that Nick and Kristen would have great chemistry," he said.
In 2012 Stewart, who once dated actor Robert Pattinson, and Lawrence, 23, were subject to feud rumors however they quickly denied the rumors by hanging out together at the Toronto Film Festival in September.
"She's so cool," Stewart told MTV News of spending time with Lawrence. "I think people assume that actresses don't want to [be friends]."
Filming for "Equals" begins later this year.
