'Kung Fu Panda 3' Release Date News: First Official Poster Revealed, JK Simmons to Voice Villain

The long wait for the third installment of "Kung Fu Panda" isn't over yet so a teaser poster will have to do for now. The official poster of the upcoming CG sequel "Kung Fu Panda 3" has just been released by DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox and this can only mean one thing — the lovable wacky panda hero, Po, is ready for his big comeback on screen.

The movie, which features the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Huffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross and more will hit theaters on Jan. 29, 2016. It's still months away but the release of the trailer allowed the fans to have a glimpse of what to expect to the upcoming movie.

Po (Jack Black) meets his long-lost panda father (Bryan Cranston) when he suddenly reappears. The reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of laughable new panda characters. But they encounter a supernatural villain named Kai (J.K. Simmons) who is plotting to defeat anyone who stands in his way. He defeats all the kung fu masters, urging Po to do the impossible—training a village of his fun-loving, gawkish brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas.

"Kung Fu Panda 3" co-director Jennifer Yuh Nelson revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the villain would be voiced by award-winnning J.K. Simmons, who is best known for his roles in the "Law & Order" Series as well as in the "Spider-Man" trilogy. His character Kai the bull, will have supernatural abilities that will really test Po. His large horns, leather armor, and two jade swords with chains attached will surely be an intimidating image to look at. But though intimidating, Nelson ensured that the introduction of the character will involve some laughs so as not to scare the kids out of the theater.
