LaChanze Sapp-Gooding Wows Audience With 'Amazing Grace' to Dedicate 9/11 Museum, Honor Husband Killed at WTC (VIDEO)
When scheduled performer Idina Menzel, of "Let It Go" fame, got sick, organizers of last week's 9/11 Museum Dedication scrambled to find a substitute. The last-minute replacement, LaChanze Sapp-Gooding, delivered a pitch-perfect a cappella performance of "Amazing Grace," not just because of her Tony Award-winning voice but because of her connection to the devastation of September 11, 2001.
Gooding's husband, Calvin Joseph Gooding, was killed in the World Trade Center attacks. She and Calvin had a daughter at the time, and she was eight months pregnant with their second girl.
Hear her story in this NBC News report, and watch the stunning performance below that.
