Lady Gaga Makes Unusual Pairing at Grammys Concert
Lady Gaga has both opened and closed Wednesday night’s 2011 Grammy’s Nomination Concert with performances, including a pairing of her voice with Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles.
CBS News referred to the duo’s performance as “one of the most jaw-dropping performances” of the entire night. Gaga began singing her song “You and I” while playing the piano when Nettles joined in with guitar. Sugarland’s other member Kristian Bush was also on stage playing guitar.

The fourth annual “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!” Wednesday night not only announced the nominees but saw performances by them as well as past Grammy Award winners.
Performances by Jason Aldean, Lady Gaga, Ludacris, Rihanna, and Sugarland were enjoyed by viewers, while “Twilight” actor Taylor Lautner and Taraji P. Henson served as presenters.
This year’s concert also featured a special performance of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five members Melle Mel and Scorpio’s recording, “The Message,” by LL Cool J, Common, Rick Ross, and Lupe Fiasco.
Nominated artists Nicki Minaj, The Band Perry, and Katy Perry also took the stage Wednesday night during the live concert.
This year’s Grammy nominees recognized today’s top musical artists including Kanye West who led with seven nominations. British singing sensation Adele did not suffer any snubs even with her recent hiatus due to throat surgery. The 22-year-old earned six nominations, all for her album 21 which is this year’s top-selling album.
In addition, Bruno Mars and the Foo Fighters received six nominations, and both were included in the Album of the Year category.
The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will air live Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
The Recording Academy which is responsible for the Grammy Awards boasts that the Grammys are “truly a peer honor,” where awards are given by and to artists and technical professionals for artistic or technical accomplishments and not sales or chart positions, according to grammy.org.
The Academy is comprised of “musicians, producers, engineers, and recording professionals dedicated to improving the cultural condition and quality of life for music and its makers.”
