Lady Gaga VMA 2011: Singer Accused of Copying 'Annie Lennox,' Ruins Her Image?
After Lady Gaga appeared as her masculine alter-ego Jo Calderone during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, some are unhappy with her gender bending costume.
Some have accused Lady Gaga of copying singer Annie Lennox who dressed as a man during her 1984 Grammy Award performance. Kelly Osbourne, daughter of Rock and Roller Ozzy Osbourne, was the first to reveal the similarities between Gaga and Lennox.
“I love lady gaga but I wish she would start giving credit where credit is due!” Osbourne tweeted as she posted a video of Lennox.

Much like Lennox in 1984, Gaga performed with a cropped wig and black slacks that shaped her into a masculine singer. This was not the first time that the “Born this way” singer has been accused of being unoriginal.
Gaga has been said to copycat Madonna and Bette Midler in the past. However, some brand consultants have said this could be the worst instance for the singer who may be confusing her fans.
Amanda Guralski, a branding consultant, told E! news that Gaga’s cross dressing may have hurt her brand.
"What Lady Gaga did left people confused as to who she is," Guralski said. "She has developed a brand of outlandish clothing and outspokenness, being comfortable born the way you are, but the VMAs was a brand destroyer.”
The brand consultant said the night was shameful for the singer.
"The night was embarrassing for Lady Gaga,” Guralski said. “If I were her image and branding consultant, I would definitely have my work cut out for me. It only takes one appearance to make people question everything."
One spectator seemed to already lose respect for the 25-year-old singer.
"Gaga copied Annie Lennox's 1984 performance," 143wifeyxtina tweeted on Monday. "What a copycat!"
