'Land of the Lustrous' Episode 3 Spoilers: Can the Jewels Manage to Bring Phos Back?

Phos may be one of the weaker jewels around, but this does not take away from the character's courage and willingness to be of good use for their people. But what happens now when this very courage has managed to put Phos' very existence in serious danger on the Japanese action-fantasy anime series, "Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous)"?

The Lunarians have become determined than ever to harvest the jewels and have, this time, turned to very drastic measures. Not only did they attack while the jewel's master, Kongo, was deep in meditation, they even sent an initially harmless looking shell right into the jewels' midst.

The shell turned out to be that of strange snail creature whose acidic fluids could effortlessly melt any jewel it swallows. And who should be standing in its path but the weak jewel, Phos.

Phos has been swallowed and subsequently digested by the giant snail. And it was the other jewel, Diamond, who voiced out the question that hit ever viewer's mind at the sight of it: Can jewels be put back together after they have melted?

It seems that fans will have to wait for the next episode to find out. The preview for the said episode, titled "Metamorphose," shows the other jewels seemingly working together to find a way to bring Phos back to form. However, the title itself could also be hinting at something more that is about to happen, should the jewels succeed in bringing Phos back.

Will Phos return to the original weak form that the character has, or will Phos somehow gain a new texture, consistency, or even hardness as a result of the snail's acid?

Then again, will Phos really be able to return to form and find a way to help Cinnabar, as was the Jewel's final thought before completely disintegrating? Or could this really be the end for the brave weakling?

"Land of the Lustrous" airs on Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. JST on AT-X and at 10 p.m. JST on Tokyo MX. It also airs on the same day at 11 p.m. JST on BS11 and late night at 2:38 a.m. JST on MBS. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site.
