Lauren Scruggs Makes First Outing Since Devastating Plane Accident
'God Knows What He's Doing,' Says Model
Model Lauren Scruggs, who suffered severe injuries after walking into a moving plane propeller, has ventured outside for the first time since the devastating December accident, and, as her mother has shared, the young woman is still trusting in God.
"She and I made our first adventure, the other day, to one of our favorite places, Whole Foods," her mother Cheryl Scruggs wrote on CaringBridge.org Wednesday. The family has used the nonprofit family-oriented website to post updates regarding the 23-year-old’s remarkable recovery.
"[At Whole Foods] we had many complete strangers stop us, with tears in their eyes, saying they have been praying for Lo [Lauren] and for our family. Many have told us how the accident has them seriously thinking about how important God needs to be in their lives, or how it has helped them refocus where they have gotten off track in their spiritual walk," she continued.

"We've had a few tough days, but things finally smoothed out yesterday. It is interesting trying to balance a ‘new norm,’ get enough rest, and just sit and relax for a few minutes."
On Dec. 3, Scruggs took a plane ride with pilot friend Curt Richmond to see the Christmas lights over the Dallas, Texas, area. After the trip, as Scruggs climbed out of the two-person airplane, the dark night hindered her vision – causing her to walk directly into the still-moving propeller.
The accident has left the creator of LoLo Magazine with a severed left hand, shoulder and brain injuries, and also resulted in the loss of her left eye.
Regardless, Scruggs has made remarkable strides in her recovery and continues rehabilitation at a Dallas hospital. She, along with her family, has received overwhelming support from those moved by her story. A benefit event for the Lauren Scruggs Hope Fund raised around $10,000 in December, and the family continues to receive donations to help offset her medical bills.
Cheryl Scruggs, touched by the outpouring of support, wrote, "Isn't this what life is all about?"
"Lo [Lauren] has been talking, lately, about JOY...it brings tears to my eyes as she says, 'This isn't what I would have chosen, but God knows what He is doing, and I have Joy in knowing that He has chosen me to Glorify Him in this. I am excited to see how I can be used,'" Cheryl shared Wednesday.
