LAX Shooting: At Least 3 Injured When Gunman Opened Fire, Suspect in Custody
Police officials are indicating that there was an incident involving a firearm in LAX that resulted in several shots being fired and the subsequent evacuation of Terminal 3.
So far reports indicate that the incident resulted in at least three injuries
Parts of Los Angeles' international airport were evacuated Friday after a shooting incident, officials and media reports said.
An alleged suspect was wounded and an airport worker for the Transportation Security Administration was shot, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Police have taken the alleged gunman into custody, according to NBC.
"There is an incident underway at LAX," the airport posted on its Twitter feed.
The incident began at around 9:30 a.m. local time in Terminal 3 of the airport and resulted in the evacuation of both terminals 2 and 3.
Tory Belleci of the television show "Mythbusters" tweeted: "Heard gun shots then everyone starting running for the door. Not sure if anyone was hurt. #LAX."
Hundreds of travelers were shown running away from at least one terminal building, while numerous emergency vehicles including fire trucks and ambulances were shown racing to the scene.
There were other passengers that were instructed to line up along the tarmac near an airplane as emergency workers secured the area.
There have been only a few details that have been released so far, but unconfirmed reports revealed that the suspect had used a high-powered rifle. It is also unclear how the alleged gunman gained access to the secured part of the terminal.
"After the initial burst of gunfire and hiding, people started jumping over one another, jumping off chairs, pushing each other," Fox Sports reporter Bill Reiter posted on Twitter. "Chaos & fear."
