The first “President’s Leadership Summit” successfully drew leaders of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) under “One Mission, One Message, One People.”

The president of the LCMS, Geral Kieschnick, said the St. Louis summit had a three fold purpose: To make the vision of “One Mission, one message, one people” a reality throughout the 2-million member denomination; to discover ways to improve the work of the International Center in service to the LCMS congregations, schools, institutions, entities and auxiliaries; and to listen and learn from those at the front lines of ministry.

According to the LCMS news service, Kieschnick has been promoting the “One” theme over the last year as a way to “communicate a response to God’s love – Jesus Chrsit.”

"What's important to us is not that we just analyze the input but that we do something with it," Kieschnick's senior assistant, Rev. Jon Braunersreuther, said.

Most of the summit was spent in small group sessions where the leaders shared reports to present to the larger body.

“Topics included interpreting the vision, improving service to the Synod, and priorities for the president and Synod executives,” according to the LCMS news service.

The summit, which was held from January 20-22, attracted 10 parish pastors, five school principles, executives from the Synod and Concordia publishing house, and synod officers.

"It is clear to me that leaders such as those gathered for this summit are excited about helping the Synod make a difference in the lives of people by sharing with them God's love in Jesus Christ," said Kieschnick.
