Leaked Footage of 'Hitman' Reveals Some Gameplay Details
Not much has been revealed about the upcoming installment of the "Hitman" series, as its developer IO Interactive and publisher Square Enix have been guarding the secrets of the game. Until now that is, when leaked footage of the game has been uploaded online, revealing some of the game's elements and gameplay. Several copies of the footage have been posted online and gamers and fans have been catching a glimpse of it before it is taken down by its developer or publisher.
The leaked footage featured more than 10 minutes of video, showing off some of the game's mechanics and environments. The video shows Agent 47, the game's assassin, as he goes through "a series of situations with the classic mechanics of the franchise." Tech Times reported that players were given "huge degrees of freedom in deciding how to accomplish missions" while new gamers at the same time can get tips and details in order for them to accomplish missions easier and faster. Given that it is a leak, it is not known at what level in the development process the game is in.
According to another report in GameSpot, the gameplay that was leaked was apparently alpha footage, with some parts displaying the text "May contain placeholder assets." The report also quoted Travis Barbour, who is in charge of community for IO interactive, saying that the actual game "looks and plays a lot better than" what appears in the leaked video.
"Proof to come, of course," he added.
Initial reactions to the leaked footage have been positive, as it seems fans are happy that the video showed that the game is returning to "the mechanics that made the franchise successful."
The Tech Times report said that the development team from IO Interactive had said that it was planning to build more environments that use the same template as the one in "Hitman: Blood Money," which gave gamers some leeway on how to go about approaching each mission they take on.
The new game will be released on Dec. 8, through digital distribution for the PC, the PS4 and the Xbox One. No word on when a physical copy of the game will be made available. PS4 console owners will get six exclusive missions that are exclusive for the Sony console.
