LeAnn Rimes Criticized Over 'Katie' Interview (VIDEO)

LeAnn Rimes recently opened up about her 30-day stint in rehab during an interview with talk show host Katie Couric, and fans have begun questioning her level of sincerity.

The troubled singer claims that she was overcome with stress and anxiety after enduring years of public backlash over her extramarital affair with Eddie Cibrian, prompting her recent admission into rehab. During her interview with Couric, Rimes spoke about her personal struggles.

"I feel like I am starting over even though I've had all these years behind me. How many people get to [start] over again in this day and age?" Rimes told Couric.

"People look at you and go, 'Why are you struggling?' No one can quite understand why you hurt so badly," she added while fighting back tears.

Fans of the 30-year-old country music singer flocked to social networking sites where an overwhelming majority criticized and even ridiculed her interview.

"LeAnn Rimes is pathetic. Break up a family then whine on TV how stressful it is ON YOU. Seriously? *Homewrecker rehab* has taught you nada!" One user known as AngelOfDevs tweeted.

"LeAnn Rimes says she will have a fresh start after rehab. She will only tweet one bikini photo per week," Susan Alexander tweeted.

"LeAnn is so fake and phony! YOU chose to breakup two marriages! YOU chose to put urself b4 his children! Crocodile tears r gettin old!" Tara M. tweeted.

The backlash on Twitter will likely come as no surprise to Rimes, who has previously engaged in various Twitter wars with critics when they openly condemned her marriage to Cibrian, 39. The singer recently admitted that the negative tweets do have an effect on her.

"I think it's really hard to deal with Twitter and Facebook," Rimes told The Boston Herald. "And it's hard to take it day after day of reading and seeing things that someone you don't even know says about you. As much as you said you don't want it to penetrate, it does, because you're human."

Recent reports suggest that Rimes' admission into rehab was also in part due to her alleged stress over looming fears that Cibrian has been unfaithful in their 1-year marriage, according to RadarOnline.com. This report has not been verified, however.

"LeAnn is beyond stressed about the cracks in her relationship with Eddie and she has been really scared that he is cheating on her," a source reportedly told RadarOnline.com.

"LeAnn called a friend of hers a few weeks ago sobbing hysterically about Eddie going out. She was home for the weekend and he didn't stay in with her and she was crying saying that she was so worried about what he was doing when he wasn't with her," the insider went on.

Rimes' interview will air on the "Katie" show Thursday and on "All Access Nashville with Katie Couric," a special edition of "20/20," Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
