Learning to Trust & Let God Be in Control

Life is hard, but God is good.

Have you ever heard that phrase before? Whether you have or not, you probably agreed with it when you read it. It's true that we all have to deal with difficult situations in our life. And when we're stressed out, we get weary and don't accomplish what we need to do.

In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me…and you will find rest for your souls" (NIV).

When Jesus says to "take my yoke upon you," He's saying that whatever you have to deal with in life, if you ask God to help you and pray for His strength, then you and He together can handle anything. We can do ALL things through Christ (see Philippians 4:13).

The Little Word That Makes All the Difference

This little word "all" is often easily overlooked, but it's a very important word that changes the context of Scriptures when we pay attention to it. I like to circle the "alls" in my Bible to draw my attention to them.

Think about it… All means nothing is left out, there's no end to it, and there's nothing outside of it – all encompasses everything!

We can find this word many times in the Bible. One version of the Bible uses it 5,675 times. Matthew 19:26 says that "with God all things are possible." And 1 John 3:20 says that God "knows all things." Here are a few more examples:

• God forgives all our iniquities
• He heals all our diseases
• All blessings flow from Him
• Jesus is Lord of all and has all power

When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the seed of everything we need to be like Him is planted in us – we can have all that He has!

The Key to Getting All You Need

Now, if you don't believe God's power is available to you, it won't be released in your life. Everything God wants to give us and do for us comes to us through the blood of Jesus and our faith. We have to believe what God says more than what we feel or see or what other people say.

We like to analyze things and reason, analyze and reason, analyze and reason…but when we think we've got something figured out, we find out we don't have anything figured out after all. Then, when people ask, "What are you going to do?" we often tell them how we feel, rather than who is in control.

God wants us to trust Him when we don't understand or when it seems life is unfair or when our situation makes no sense at all or when we hurt so bad we don't think we can stand it anymore…

In those times, we need to declare, "God, I trust You. I don't know what You're going to do, how You're going to do it or when You're going to do it, but I'm not going to worry about it. I'm going to do what You're asking me to do because I have Your power, through Christ, to do it."

In Christ, we can do whatever we need to do because all power in heaven and earth has been given to Him. God is with us all the time, and He'll never leave us nor forsake us.

If God has asked you to stay in a difficult situation because He wants to use you in it, don't get caught up thinking about how you feel and talking about it. Remind yourself that all things are possible with God. You can do what He's asking you to do because He has provided all you need to do it.

There's nothing outside of God's control! He has all of your problems solved before you even experience them. And even though we don't always understand everything or know what we need to do, we must remember that we know the One who knows all things and is Lord over all.
