LeBron James Inks Deal With Warner Bros. for Film, TV and Other Projects
After making a name for himself in the sports world, LeBron James seems all set to venture into the mainstream entertainment industry. The NBA superstar and the entertainment company he established with partner Maverick Carter called SpringHill Entertainment recently inked a multi-project deal with Warner Bros. Entertainment. The agreement covers projects in different areas, from TV, film to original digital content, according to reports.
Although no specific projects were announced, the deal was made public by James, Carter and Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara. Tsujihara acknowledged LeBron James' as "one of the most powerful, well-known brands in the world" and with Warner Bros. "unmatched production and distribution expertise," the deal is "a big win for fans everywhere."
SpringHill Entertainment is not new in the entertainment industry. The company has current projects with Disney XD, the Starz network, the Turner digital platform Bleacher Report and the NBC network.
According to another report in the Wall Street Journal, the deal also provides James with the opportunity to build his presence in the industry.
"To be able to partner with Warner Bros. will allow me to do some things I've always dreamed of," he said.
The report also mentioned that some of the projects that may be considered may likely star the NBA star himself, but that is not the priority. James said that if he finds the material interesting enough and "is authentic to who he is," he will consider it. Otherwise, he is also willing to work behind the scenes, specifically in the business side of things, which he reportedly been interested in for some time.
Most of the famous athletes who have transitioned from the sports world to the entertainment world mostly went through the acting channels. If LeBron succeeds, he will be among the few athletes who have successfully made such a transition.
